Tranquility Park is my go to trail. It's rideable from my house, well constructed, and a lot of fun!
Tranquility was the first trail that I rode in Omaha and man has it changed! The original path was only around three to four miles and lacked switchbacks on one hill making it doable, but zero fun. It is now a little over eight miles with the recent addition of the north loop in 2011 that buzzes around the softball fields and back.
Tranquility lacks any real technical features aside from a few log hops and stray roots. However, it does make things interesting at the top of the south hill with a couple of BMX-esque dirt hills and a path cut over dirt mounds bulldozed from nearby tennis court construction.
What Tranquility lacks in technical aspects it delivers in speed! I smile every time flying downhill, cutting curves, and hopping water control dirt mounds, wind blowing through my hair.. er... helmet! Plus, the trail passes through a variety of scenery; pine grove, deciduous trees, exposed hillside, and wildflower bespeckled meadow. Tranquility also has a variety of wildlife other than barking dogs from backyards bordering the park. Squirells, rabbits, and wild turkeys rome the hills. I also nearly endo'd myself over a badger hole! Night rides are are a fun way to see the park in a different "light". Although this may give a rider a close encounter with the park's less popular inhabitant, the skunk.
Tranquility delivers it's namesake in serene rolling landscape, an oasis in the city. Either cruise the winding singletrack or flirt with loss of control as your blaze this awesome trail!
Tranquility Park parking lot is on the south side of Fort St. in Omaha between 120th and 132nd St. just south of the soccer fields.
